What is the best way to get from NYC to LBI via public transport?

I'm in New York City, and am looking for the best way to get to Long Beach Island via public transport. I currently take the NJ Transit bus 137/319 to Tom's River (and get a ride from there), but I feel like there's got to be a better way.
