Why be a gentlemen(Playing devils advocate)?

The question is simple, Why be a gentlemen? Give a Legit reason why I should hold the door open, give up my seat on the bus, walk on the side where there's traffic, or lay my coat down on a puddle so her shoes or feet get wet?
