Ideas for our next family car (UK)?

Try a BMW 530D estate - more of a lifestyle estate than say a Volvo V70 - it's load area is big enough for most people, it is powerful, fast, economical and fun to drive. I am on my second one and love it, handles just as well as the saloons and that 3 litre deisel is a great engine. As it happens i am a grandad but a 'grandad car' it is not !
