My gear change crunches whenever I put it from any gear to second! can anyone tell me what's the problem?

Its an Audi A4 saloon FSI SE. lately, the gear crunches despite pressing the cluch all the way down. The crunch occurs only when I change it from 1st to second or from other gears to 2nd. I would like to have tips before I take it to garage. I welcome your suggestion.
